Z = The End #atozchallenge

Z = The End

This last letter in the alphabet signals an end to the 2013 #atozchallenge and that ending is my reflection today.

As a first time participant, I have enjoyed the experience immensely. I learned a lot! Setting up my webpage in August of 2011 was a large learning curve for me.  Now I have some new tricks up my sleeve concerning wordpress. (I’m very proud of learning how to add music to yesterday’s post)  When I first created the website,  I wasn’t sure of what I hoped to accomplish, other than to announce the publication of my e-book, Greening of a Heart, and support the book with gardening topics and other things near and dear to my heart that have to do with England.

Preselecting a theme for the #atozchallenge forced me to plan and focus; a good discipline to be going on with.  Writing these A-Z posts taught me that I can say a lot with fewer words. I realize now that asking a reader to plow through a long post isn’t realistic. The people who share my enthusiasm for gardens, writing, and books are busy people who are probably gardening, reading, or better still, sitting at their desks writing.

I’d hoped to attract more followers to my blog out of this effort, but perhaps this has been a necessary apprenticeship; first things first. I would never have found the blogs that the challenge gathers together, though I hardly exhausted the possibilities. Still, I have done what I set out to do. I wanted to introduce people to the novel I have written and to share the things I have a heart for.

The #atozchallenge organizers have my appreciation for a job well done. I’m glad I was along for the ride.

  1. Hello again Stepheny, well done for making it to Z. As another first time participant I have learnt a lot too. There does not appear to be the “follow this blog by email” widget in the sidebar anywhere on your blog; I looked for it unsuccessfully the last time I left a comment and meant to click “follow” in my wordpress Reader afterwards but I forgot once I had left your site.

    • Hi Lynne: No wonder I was feeling disappointed that more people weren’t following after stopping by during the #challenge. I followed directions and the ‘follow me e-mail’ etc. is now posted. I hope it really works and doesn’t just look nice. You were great to take the time and send me an alert. See, another thing I’ve learned while participating. THANK YOU. I hope you will give me another look and consider pushing the follow me button. 🙂

      • I pressed “follow” from my own blog’s reader yesterday so you should be seeing me as a follower now. I am still struggling with positioning multiple photos on my posts; they seem to have their own ideas about where they want to go regardless of whether I press left, right or centre but I am sure I will get better at it soon. I never expected to be hosting a blog at my age anyway so I am determined to make it a positive learning process and not get stressed about a few glitches along the way.

      • Hi Lynne…a tip about photos. You are on wordpress….you have written a New Post. At the top of that new post you can add media. You click there and have to bring your photo into this library of your wordpress uploads. Before I upload that photo I place my curser on the New Post I have written at the top of that post. When I hit the insert photo button back on my media library on WP that photo will position itself at the center top of your post. Where ever you leave your curser in that post, I believe when you hit the insert photo button it will insert it where your curser is. Then you can move it to the right or left like you would move a paragraph. Wonder if this could be of help. Hope so.
