Years ago, one of my favorite ‘moving’ stories came from a neighbor after she’d settled in. She told me she’d written her friends back home, “Just my luck, I’ve moved next door to the President of the Garden Club.” I wonder what my new neighbor is thinking today? She is widowed and lives behind drawn blinds; she seems to have lost her oomph. This will never do!
Today I asked her to take me to the Senior Center, a place she used to go three times a week. I have never been to a Senior Center, and though I qualify in years, certainly not in attitude. It’s a place for old people right? But, they have a Garden Club meeting once a month, and this is the week; a lady is coming to talk about Fairy Gardens. So, of course I am going back. (See my several Fairy Garden boards on Pinterest) Oh, and the knitting ladies told me they would teach me to knit. When I asked my neighbor to join me for the fairy gardens, she declined, but Rome wasn’t built in a day, as they say.
Leaving the Center, my new neighbor acted as tour guide as we drove around, which doesn’t take long. We laughed and chatted. I found out she likes the salads at Wendy’s. I haven’t been there either, but I’ll be going soon! Perhaps my arrival next door will lure this lovely woman out of her cottage to what John Powell wrote about in his book, Fully Human, Fully Alive. Wish me luck…
