SFH Favorite Collected Quotes – Oscar Wilde

IMG_1439

I have created this new blog category. Each Monday, I post one of my favorite quotes. Join me for a chuckle, a spot of inspiration, or a sigh when you say, “Oh, I love this.”

“I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train.”
Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest

Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde (1854 –1900) was an Irish writer and poet. He became one of London’s most popular playwrights in the early 1890s. One of the things he is remembered for today are his epigrams. Some of his famous lines  are among my collectable quotes.

I have written in journals through the years, sometimes religiously, and at other times only when the spirit moves me. This is why Wilde’s quote makes me smile. I occasionally reread my journal entries, though not on the train, and I’m amazed how many times I have written about putting an issue down, only to find in a later entry, that I have picked it up again. One needs a sense of humor and mischief like Oscar Wilde  in order to face the future.

“Memory is the diary that we all carry about with us.”

Eminently quotable, wasn’t he? Here’s my favorite: “A cigarette is the perfect type of a perfect pleasure. It is exquisite, and it leaves one unsatisfied. What more can one want?”
