L – The 1927 Lake Lure Inn

Welcome to the #AtoZ Blog Challenge and a Tour of Hotels & Inns

The-1927-Lake-Lure-Inn-Spa-Exterior-PoolA jazzy Youtube Video and a quick look at the Inn

The mountains of western North Carolina are beautiful in every season. The 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa is a lovely base camp from which to go exploring.

“….mountains. They stand at every view, like a mother offering a blanket in which to wrap everyday life and shelter it from useless. dreads. In june they are walls of white rhodendron blossom. In autumn the forests set themselves afflame with
color. Even winter has its icy charms.”
 Barbara Kingsolver, The Lacuna

I have never stayed at The Inn, but have spent time in nearby places. The history and character of Lake Lure Inn are perfect for my  #Challenge theme. It is nestled at the base of Hickory Nut Gorge with granite faced mountains and views of Lake Lure at every turn. The Inn is located across the street from the Lake Lure Beach. The property consists of the original 1927 Hotel, The Beachside Motor Lodge and 3 private cabins. The elegant Veranda Restaurant is located at the east end of the 1927 Hotel and the Moose and Goose Lounge is located just off the main lobby. Two Presidents, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Calvin Coolidge have stayed as well as Emily Post and F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Inn is decorated with beautiful antiques that look like they may have been around when Roosevelt visited. If your travels aren’t taking you to this beautiful spot, read Charles Frazier’s Cold Mountain for some arm chair travel to this beautiful part of the world.th-1 th

Hello Stepheny! I really like the Lake Lure Inn and the music in the video is great. I have never been to US but hope I’ll go one day. Love the southern charm since I was a child from watching movies… always wandered if it is still present?

I’d love to stay here! My husband and I are both born and breed Californians but we are looking to leave. This place looks nice but pricey.

I’m visiting from the A to Z Challenge.
